WORKSHOP METHODS

6-3-5 METHOD

The goal of this method is to collect as many ideas as possible in a short amount of time.

The 6-3-5 method is another brainstorming technique. The method is conducted with a group of 6 people. As a result, you get at least 6x3 ideas in a short time, which can be further developed by the other 5 participants.

PREPARATION

A form with a grid consisting of 3 columns and 6 rows, totaling 18 fields, and the formulation of the question or task for which ideas are to be collected.

EXECUTION

The moderator presents the question and distributes the worksheet to the 6 participants. In the first round, participants are asked to write down 3 ideas in the top row, with only a few minutes available. Then, the sheet is passed on, and the ideas are further developed or supplemented by the other participants.

EXPERIENCE WITH THE METHOD

The 6-3-5 method can be prepared and carried out easily without much effort and is very suitable for producing many ideas very quickly. More reserved personalities are also included to the same extent.

The time factor that comes into play in many brainstorming methods creates positive pressure. What is to be criticized is the lack of exchange between each other due to the limited communication and the wording must be at least clear (and legible) enough for the next person to be able to do something with the ideas.

My first experience with this method was in a process of finding a name for a project and I was amazed at how broad the result was. This is of course followed by the evaluation of the ideas.
