TAX PORTAL

The aim of the website relaunch was to provide taxpayers with easier access to easily understandable information and to present the canton of Nidwalden as an attractive place to live and work.

With the new website, the cantonal authority can present their services and information in an open and citizen-centred way and also showcase the Nidwalden economic region in the right light.


My role as an external UX designer was to accompany the conceptual development process from the analysis to the UX design to the training of the editors for optimal content development for the new website.
 

SERVICES AND UX METHODS

Analysis workshops to create a common understanding of the goals and target groups for the new website.​

UX methods used:

  • Personas based on existing statistical data and employees' experiences with tax customers, recognising overlaps between the tax office and business development

  • User scenarios to show possible ways in which a user interacts with the website

Analysis of the current content:

  • The usage data of the current website showed that most of the pages are used by private individuals and not by companies. At the same time, the test on leichtlesbar.ch revealed that the texts are full of technical jargon and difficult for private individuals to understand. 

Information architecture:

  • The new information architecture emphasises tax topics and provides additional information on the business location. The structure helps users to find their way around the content in a needs-orientated way.

RESULT

The new website of the Cantonal Tax Office offers various access points according to tax topics as well as specific life situations. The content is organised in a simple and structured way, with relevant contacts always close at hand. Important documents and dates are prominently displayed on the homepage.

 

The website also presents the advantages of the canton of Nidwalden as a business location.
